The holidays have really changed since having kids, which I’m sure any Mama already knows. It was amazing watching the joy in their eyes as they realized who Santa was, hearing their squeals when Santa took a bite out of the cookie we left out, and the excitement from all of the time spent with cousins, grandparents, and friends.
No one really talks about the other side of things… Kids are off schedule, everyone’s running around broke and eating their feelings full of Christmas goodies. [is that just me?] One thing I was not prepared for was the amount of TOYS that came with Christmas this year with two littles. Because Brooks is a Christmas baby, the toys we received, which we are super thankful for, were exponentially more than I anticipated. We live in a relatively small-er home and with this comes a teeny bit of anxiety when we have too much “stuff” around. So on Christmas Day, as we opened our gifts and returned to some sense of normalcy, the kids and I went through their current toys and things, sifted through, and put together three garbage bags full of toys to donate & sell.
I LOVE to organize! Cleaning house like this makes me feel good. Purging unused items creates space and also limits the amount of toys my kids have to decide between. I’m sure you’ve seen it: they’re playing with something and then two seconds later they are on to something else. So, I felt it was my civic & motherly duty to clear out the old and unused and make roomfor the new. With this, I wanted to share a few of the items we have in the playroom that help keep it cozy, clean, and organized.
I have a few different canvas bags that are sturdy, large, and fashionable
I purchased this multi-colored toy organizer last year and I really like it! It certainly brightens up the room and I although light, it’s sturdy enough for tons of toys.
I feel lucky that we have such a large space for the kids’ toys within sight of both the kitchen and the living room. The windows keep it lit nicely, but because there’s no heat, this mat was a must to help keep the floor warmer.
The kids were asleep when I took this photo. Normally there are toys scattered everywhere from the windows in this room all the way through to the living room. I wouldn’t have it any other way <3
Do you have any other organizational items you use in your home that would be helpful for the Band of Mamas? If so, please feel free to comment below so I can add them to my list!
XO,
Linds
